Why Herping in Kaeng Krachan?
Kaeng Krachan national park, the largest park of Thailand, is covered in various different types of forest and lies in an area where various biodiversity zones meet; the perfect combination for a reptile and amphibian rich area. From Pope's Pit Vipers to King Cobras, from Reticulated Pythons to Red Mountain Racers, from Scale-bellied Tree Lizards to Blanford's Gliding Lizards, from Nepal Gliding Frogs to Smith's Litter Frogs, and from Blue Malayan Coral Snakes to Brongersma's Short-tailed Pythons; the list is so much longer, many of these are not commonly seen, but it shows the potential this area has for field herping trips in Kaeng Krachan national park .
What we do on our Field Herping Trips?
At this point we don't offer 1-day trips, but only 2 or more day herping tours. Overnight camping is essential for good access to the area when darkness falls. Our chances significantly increase at night when night walking. In daytime we will combine exploring on foot, with some game driving, trying to focus on various habitat types to increase potential species numbers. There is no fixed itinerary. Depending on time of year, weather conditions, and your personal preferences we decide hour to hour where it is best to go next.
Kaeng Krachan national park - Where & When?
Kaeng Krachan national park lies at about 3 hours from Bangkok. And 1:30 hrs from Hua Hin. Our field herping tours start from Kaeng Krachan town, which you can reach by public shuttle minivans from Bangkok Victory Monument, but we can offer private transfers from Bangkok or elsewhere, as well.
Kaeng Krachan national park closes in the months August - October, so our tours are only on offer outside these months. Though, there might be options to visit interesting areas just outside the national park during the wet season months.
These herping tours are private tours and all-inclusive. We camp inside the park and provide all camping gear.

Despite the higher visitor number and more developed infrastructure, Khao Yai national park is Thailand's best park for wildlife watching. And since we have a (small) team of guides in Khao Yai, we are still able to organize a wildlife tour for you in Khao Yai instead.
