Why to visit Huai Kha Khaeng?

Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary is the main core of the Western Forest Complex - Thailand's largest remaining wilderness. A third, or maybe even half of the remaining wild Tiger population of the country inhabits this nature reserve. On our wildlife tours we'll search for tracks of the big cats, the chance of a sighting is even in this sanctuary very slim. However, the presence of tigers means prey species' numbers are high; Huai Kha Khaeng is home to lots of interesting wildlife including Banteng, Green Peafowl, Golden Jackals, Asian Elephant, and lots more. Reason enough to visit!

What we do on our Wildlife Tours?

We spend hours waiting patiently at wildlife watching hides, go hiking on foot in tiger habitat, and do game drives in search for the elusive wildlife. The lack of tourists in the area, and therefore the few facilities means we might need to 'rough it'. Therefore these tours in Huai Kha Khaeng are maybe not suitable for the average tourist. For easier wildlife watching in an easier accessible park we recommend our Khao Yai national park tours. However, if you're a true wildlife enthusiast, this is a great place to spend your time searching for animals.

From the watching towers in Huai Kha Khaeng we have a chance to see all kinds of animals. It's the best spot in the country to see herds of the endangered Banteng. And this images shows some Sambar deer joining in.

Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary - When & Where?

The area where we operate our wildlife tours in Huai Kha Khaeng lies 320km from Bangkok, near Nakhon Sawan/ Uthai Thani in the West of Thailand. The tours start from Uthai Thani.

Huai Kha Khaeng sees very few visitors, and that together with the present wildlife makes it highly interesting.

The wildlife sanctuary is open year-round. The end of the cool and dry winter months is most likely the best time of year to visit when temperatures start to rise and water levels are low forcing wildlife to visit the limited water supplies available.

Huai Kha Khaeng Tours - What are the costs?

Our wildlife tours are only available on private base, and for limited group sizes. We only offer safaris of multiple days.

Green Peafowl
Green Peafowls
On our wildlife tours in Huai Kha Khaeng you have a good chance to see this handsome bird. Green Peafowls are doing well, and are often seen from wildlife watching hides.

** Due to our home building plans and the lack of a substitute guide, we are not able to offer any tours in Kaeng Krachan & Huai Kha Khaeng, as well as no specialized herping tours until January 2018.
Our apologies! **

Despite the higher visitor number and more developed infrastructure, Khao Yai national park is Thailand's best park for wildlife watching. And since we have a (small) team of guides in Khao Yai, we are still able to organize a wildlife tour for you in Khao Yai instead.
