Elephants in Kui Buri national park
The stars of our tours in Kui Buri national park are the wild Asian Elephants.
Why Kui Buri?
Kui Buri national park is a growing success story about wildlife conservation. The area was known for the many human-elephant conflicts. On a daily basis, Asian Elephants and other big herbivores like Gaur were raiding crops on the farmlands surrounding the park. The farmers had to fend off their farms to reduce the losses. The animals that simply claimed their historic range were seen as pests by the locals and treated as such. The elephants were on the loosing hand.
However, after His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej shared his ideas on tackling the human-elephant conflict, the locals followed his words and took action. Part of the cultivated areas were returned to nature, and saltlicks & waterholes were created and parts were reforested.
This has not totally solved the trouble, but has made a big difference. And the locals did not stop there.
In 2006 a group of locals started the Kuiburi Wildlife Ecotourism Club, an initiative with the goal to get the local farmers involved in the wildlife tourism industry. The local farmers and their family members are employed as drivers and guide assistants to show visitors around and show people the animals that they previously considered a pest.
Our local guide Bill is one of the prime members of this club and has been working with passion to change the mindset of the locals and get them to protect the animals by showing them the long-term economic value of nature & wildlife.
The local farmers now make an additional income with the wildlife tourism. This compensates them for the reduced, but still ongoing, losses of their crops.
There is still a long way to go, but we hope we can put this park on the map for the international tourists, and hopefully increase the popularity of this place and increase income for the locals.
Together with our guide and a local farmer driver and assistant you will go on elephant safari, so the locals and therefore the elephants directly benefit from your visit. And besides that you will encounter some of the world's largest land mammals, a memorable experience you don't want to miss!

An exciting experience that might get you eye-to-eye with the biggest land mammals that wander around in Thailand's wilderness.
Due to the dangerous nature of the wild animals, the overnight with morning walk trips are only available for limited group sizes and not for young children. Check our overnight tour package for more details.
